The problems that the Del Campe site has experienced over the last couple of days has been a costly lesson for all both in time and money.

All the time spent by sellers creating new lots during June has largely been wasted.

Sellers now find that lots sold some days ago are now reappearing for sale with all the repercussions that this can have.

Buyers are finding that bids, which they placed some days ago, have disappeared.

Sellers are finding that lots, which had several bids prior to the weekend, now have fewer bids or no bids whatsoever.

Lots have had their expiry dates automatically extended, which will have a negative effect in the short term on cash flow.

Sellers and buyers will find that any changes in personal perameters or information e.g. changes of address/ temporary absence which have taken place in the last 10 days no longer exist on the site.

These are just a few observations which I have made from a couple of minutes on the site.

I feel that it cannot be overemphasised that members, both buyers and sellers, should immediately review those actions and transactions on Del Campe, which have been affected by the technical problem close down, to ensure any adverse repercussions are minimised.

For information, I had an email from a regular customer on Del Campe in the middle of last week, advising me that he was switching to another auction site because of the problems he had had on a regular basis in accessing the Del Campe site. I was going to advise my customer that with Del Campe's new server his problem should now be solved - thank goodness pressure of work on Friday meant that it was postponed to my agenda to respond to today !!!

Technical problems are a fact of life and, despite recent problems, members should continue to support Del Campe, as it has come a long way in a relatively short time.

Technical problems are a fact of life and, despite recent problems, members should continue to support Del Campe, as it has come a long way in a relatively short time.

My concern is mainly the following:

Delcampe has placed back all the listings as they were outstanding on May 31.
Delcampe states:
""- The sales that ended between May 31 and today have to be done again. You can contact your buyer through the email that we have sent you to confirm the end of the auction.

- Sales that have started before May 31 and that are closed with or without bid have to be checked. ""

This is of course a very wrong move: all these outstanding bids per 31 May were already concluded between buyer and seller at an agreed price mostly between May 31 and June 6 or 7. In my opinion these sales at an agreed price between buyer and seller can not be unilaterally be dissolved by Delcampe. Also in many cases these items have even already been mailed to the buyers!
I have now seen new bids on these relisted items but these items are already committed to earlier buyers and have been mailed out in quite a few cases!
How do you expect me as a seller, to address this problem?

In my opinion the relisting of the items on which bids were outstanding per 31 May, should NEVER have taken place and should as soon as possible be cancelled.

Hello Eximicro ,

Yes,I also support Delcampe.
But who will give me back the wasted time for the placing of 350 auctions on the slowly Delcampe?I work from 08:00 to 18:00 and in my free time I place auctions on Delcampe. Also that first weekend of June I spent it also in inserting of auctions. For that time I have placed about 350 auctions. And what?Wasted time. The whole day when I was on work I thought about what to do.And ofcourse I decided to place again these auctions whatever it costs to me.
Also I see that Delcampe is slow and have technical problems since a long long time.So if you want to have the largest site for collectibles you need to have the possibility to support it.And I hate when I ask why it is so slow the site to receive an answer that there are a lots of sellers who insert auctions in the same time. That is not an answer who can I receive from the largest site for collectibles. It is a pity excuse.

I am on Delcampe since Dec 2001 and I like that site.
But Seb and his team must fix all the problems - technical and of other kinds.
I agree Delcampe to be shut down for a week but when it starts again to be perfect.

Anyway , I do not want to waste my time with a lots of writings :)

I am just a little upset because of that lost data base(which I think Seb and his team could save the Delcampe data base and to restart Delcampe with data base of the day before crashing of the server and not from 31.May - the last save of that datas) and also UPSET BECAUSE TODAY I ALSO FEEL THE PLEASURE OF THE PLACING OF AUCTIONS ON OUR SLOWLY DELCAMPE.

Seb , just give us an answer when we can use the NORMAL Delcampe .

Greetings to all and Have a nice wasting time

I really think Delcampe/Seb should close this place down for a week or two,
fix things up, patch what need to be patch, upgrade what needs to upgrade and then reopen once it is done and functionnal.

Because right now, between crashes, slow servers, bugs and all the problems that are showing up everyday, I fail to see how they can upgrade anything whitout causing more problems.

I am pretty lucky, I did only lost a few listings, and had only to close about 8 relisted sale (those that sold between may 31st and this week end). But honestly, I have NO IDEA how big sellers can cope with finding and closing HUNDREDS of sale that got relisted....And I would be fuming mad is I had to re-do as many listing as Bgpostcards.

Anyway just my two cents

Exmicro I agree with all that you say.

We have been badly let down by Delcampe.

Seb writes - ".........we lost two important hard disks. The first contained our data base, the second part of our last safety backup of yesterday morning" How can a safety backup be lost except by extreme carelessnes and human error?

BGpostcards write that "images cannot be Loaded" if that continues it will be the end of the road for many sellers.

There are at least four active (and English Speaking) auction sites available for selling collectables which do not charge entry fees ( and at least one of these does not charge ANY fees)....... We are not compelled to keep working here, Many of us are at present cosidering if we should move our business to another site....

Come back Seb and tell us more.

yes, it has become demoralizing here, although we hope for better.

my husband lost about 350 listings he did between june 1st and today. we don't understand why a business would not make a _daily_ backup that works. another dealer we know on here has lost several thousand listings. it is taking four people to try to resolve this at his place of business - and that costs money.

also, i had a bad customer on Delcampe and i was just getting ready to file a dispute over the situation (we didn't get paid). however, delcampe put the auction back up as running. i blacklisted the buyer and then closed the two auctions that are going to be in dispute. guess what? delcampe sent me an e'mail saying that the bad buyer was the winner. much extra delay and aggravation with this one.

and last but not least, i a freelance writer and i had written an article which, in large part, touted delcampe as being a good off-eBay possibility. i was going to turn it in to the publisher today. but i do not feel i can send this in to be published until Delcampe can demonstrate that it can stay online and work flawlessly, as it's my name/reputation on the line. i would like to see Delcampe stay stable for at least a month, before i turn this article in for publication.

Hello Coinandstampman ,

There are a worse situation as I have such one.
To write a huge message and when you click on "Send" to place it on the forum to lose the message because of the unavailability of Delcampe.Believe me , that hurts.
Why you have complains? :) With one click - four messages :applause:

That is a good idea - 1 click - 4 listed auctions ;)

And you have an additional picture added to your message - free bonus :D

Yes, We all are angry and nervous about these technical problems but I think we must stay with Delcampe.
Seb and his team made a lots to improve Delcampe and to keep it online for us.I hate these problems which are very often on Delcampe but I like Delcampe. And I do not want to change the site.
For example it is a good idea everyone to make a little donation for Delcampe.

If you want to give donations , give them to me.
I personally think Sebastian should be paying us for DownTime etc considering he has bee receiving 3 1/2-4% every month from me of my sales. Not forgetting the bronze , silver and gold members who pay subsriptions fee also.
I would like to be a gold member but I have been put of with what has happened .
Regards Bdog.

Lighten up everybody!!! Remember you are not paying to list any of your material on this site.Just make the necessary corrections and get on with it.The Delcampe team will straighten this all out in due course. If you cannot stand the heat in the kitchen, you can always go back that philanthropic site EBAY.

I understood the public message that there was just a SINGLE copy of the important database on a SINGLE hard disk? And the latest safe and fully recoverable backup was taken ELEVEN days before? I have heard similar stories before, but everytime I hear them, they sound so unbelievable. Technology exists for sure to prevent this as hard disks continue to crash without warning also in the future. Anyway, I hope this will not permanently bring down the whole site, it's so much fun to use when it is working.
