Hello,

My name is John Wolfe and I'm in Corinth, Texas, USA. As with some others here, I've inherited some postcards from my Grandparents, most which date between 1904 to 1929, with some 1940 to 1960 postcards thrown in.

After looking at this site and some others, most all of them are worthless, except to me from a family history standpoint. That said, there are several, 2 in particular, that I'd like to know more about.

One is what I think is a RPPC, depicting a ship in a harbor, titled on the bottom left, "Shipping at Redondo" (Redondo Beach, California), and on the bottom right is "Photo SUB-POST Card Co., L. A. Trade Mark". I googled "Sub-Post Card Co." and only came up with a couple of pictures at a California university website. I can't seem to find any other information about the company or the picture postcard. Oh, there is absolutely nothing on the back side.

The second is what might be a RPCC, and shows a barge with a lot of people on it being poled across a river. The picture takes up about 4-1/2" of the 5-1/2" width. In the remaining space is some writing in a foreign language. I suspect it might be from Norway, but that's only because I had a G-Grandfather who went back to his native Norway to visit family around 1911. On the back is some more writing which appears to be the conclusion of what's on the front. It has a stamp which has been cancelled and the only thing I can make out is a date of 1912.

So, my questions are: Can I post the scans I made of the cards? Where would be the best place to do so? Is there a size restriction?

Any help anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Respectfully,

John Wolfe

Thanks very much, Cajunsr1. I'll do just that.

As for the smiley's, someone's got a little too much time on their hands creating those things, don't ya think?

hi john,
well, they just got a new server company and this is probably some of their suggestions. the others were gettin' boring anyway. but he has to be careful in what is put there as not to offend the many nationalities we have on the forums. this is an international forum, not just just for americans. and i have conversed with many friends from around the world here. and it helps to be a little french. even though i was born in Texas, san antonio at fort sam houston. dad was in the army there as a pharmacist. i trained there later as an army medic, went to vietnam, got wounded and right back there as a patient. my mom had moved to louisiana after dad's death just before i went to 'nam. and sold the house in florida. ft. sam was the closest hospital to her. i ended up being medically retired from the army and finally came back to tampa to live for medical treatment. i have been back to san antonio in 1994 with my son for a medevac appointment with a doctor at lackland afb. it was a great trip and i got to share fond memories with my son who ended up in the army for 9 years too. take care and good luck on delcampe.

amities,
cajunsr.

Cajunsr,

I'm guessing that the name is part of your French background. As for your service...

Thank you for serving our Country!!!

Sorry to hear that it was the Army. I'm retired Navy, although a generation away. I retired in March of 2000.

I hope to make a few friends and I took your advice and posted on the postcards forum. Hopefully I'll be able to get some answers.

Best of luck to you,

John

hi john,
that's ok. didn't want the navy. get seasick. went across the pacific to okinawa and kadena afb when dad joined the air force in 1950, and he was stationed there in 1953. sick the whole trip. but i had my cajun uncle and cousin in the navy. one in ww2 and the other a seabee in danang about the time i was there in cu chi, very south of him. by the by, navy medics served with the jarheads, not my cup of tea. :znaika: esp. in vietnam. bad enough bein' an army medic. :crying2:
