We need an easier way for people to pay using paypal. Ebay customers are "spoiled" by the ease with which this is accomplished on ebay.

At the very least print the instructions for how to pay by Paypal using the "SEND" tab on the checkout page of sellers who offer it.

We presently have to do that manually by pasting it into the comment box of each invoice we send.

Making it simpler for people to pay will result in more sales, more repeat members to Delcampe = More commissions for Delcampe.

NOT HAVING THIS FEATURE IS THE SINGLE BIGGEST DRAWBACK TO USA BUYERS not USING DELCAMPE

Delcampe is a great site. It should always keep in mind "How can we make the site easier to use?"

Please, Integrate a Paypal payment option into Delcampe much like Moneybookers is now.

Hi again,

First two points:

1] I too, am not a fan overall with Ebay or any of it's companies at this point in time.

2] PAYPAL: is already listed on Delcampe as an accepted means of payment. It is far too late to close that barn door now. Individual sellers have the option already of not accepting or accepting paypal.

That is every sellers right. But that is NOT a reason to rant against Paypal as a Payment option when the buyers want it as an option.

If you are opposed to paypal I can respect that... but it will cost you..not a few...but many sales.

Once again, the question I ask all USA sellers on Delcampe. Are you making it easier to complete a transaction on Delcampe for your customer or are you not?

Discussion;

What is needed is a much more streamlined, easier way for USA customers to pay by paypal. While Google-check-out is also a viable payment option, IT IS NOT what most Ebay buyers are used to seeing as an online payment system (thanks to Ebay's self-serving rules), neither is Moneybookers.

But this isn't about what I like, it is about what will get Ebay's USA customers to come back again & again, after an initial first visit to Delcampe.

It is quite easy for a dealer to be completely anti-this and anti-that online. We have been online a long turn of time and we know how to get around the internet quite easily.

Such is not true about a major portion of casual Internet users.

Think about AOL. Why was it so popular for so long? Heck they still have 2,000,000 users. AOL totally takes "thinking" about and the perceived "difficulty" of getting around the internet out of the hands of older or younger "newbie" Internet users. So does Ebay.

Example of a "closed" loop Ebay purchase by an AOL member

I ) One click you are on the AOL "internet",

Click again you are in ebay.

Click on your buy-it-now item and you are sent to the "pay by paypal button" with all lines filled in for you.

Click and you are done with the transaction and your item is paid for, & Paypal then sends you back to Ebay automatically.

A four click experience that never makes the user leave their comfort Zone.

II) For Delcampe that same user has to jump through many more hoops per transaction.

Click for AOL.

Click to find link to go from AOL to the real Internet

Type in Delcampe.com. Press enter.

Click when you find Find an item to buy at Buy-it-now on Delcampe with paypal as an accepted means of payment.

You are sent to a page that tells you to wait for an invoice, request an invoice or use Moneybookers a system most USA buyers have never heard of.

At this point the casual user is confused. Many look to see where their "pay-by-paypal" button is.

At this point the buyer either waits for the invoice, sends an email to the seller asking for an invoice/instructions, or goes back and forth trying to figure out what they think went "wrong".

Those with more online experience will go to paypal.com, Log in and fill out the form for sending money to a buyer. A multi-step process that results in many payments coming to the Seller without an item number, no description, and no indication of which website the payment is for.

We get 3-4 payments a day through paypal like that now. Each one of these type "information less" payments takes 30mins to an hour to figure out.

For the slightly more savvy user, they may wait for an invoice. but, If the invoice doesn't have step by step instructions on how to pay by paypal, they are still confused..because they have NEVER had to use the send tab to pay for an item before on paypal.

Summary:

After all of those steps, In the minds of the Ebay casual user, Delcampe has now become too hard to use. Paying for an item takes too many steps and is hard to figure out.

The proof: by the numbers (I do love my databases)

I keep tabs on all the USA buyers we have sold to on Delcampe. The good news, there are more on Delcampe every month.

The bad news: An average USA buyer goes over 26.66 days in between visits to Delcampe. A non USA user averages 3.5 Days between visits.

Of all the buyers who we have sold to online on Delcampe, those that have gone over 100 days between visits to Delcampe ... over 2/3rds of them are USA buyers!

I spent some time last month and asked them why they had not come back to Delcampe. most were previous Ebay customers of mine so I had their mailing addresses, phone #s and such in my buyer database already.

The #1 cited reason they didn't come back was difficulty of payment ! - 67%

That initially surprised me until I got a few to send me emails explaining that(see above for transaction perceived problems). Over half expected people who took paypal on Delcampe to have the same "pay by paypal" button as they were used to seeing on ebay.

More interesting information about these USA buyers:

#2 reason for not coming back: Not enough USA views on site. - 23%

Note: This is no Longer true; At Present there are 67,772 USA views on Delcampe-USA vice Ebay with 57,083 USA views - 14 Oct 2008.

#3 reason for not coming back: Site is harder to navigate. Didn't like search engine - 9%

My view on selling is to make the transaction as easy as possible for the buyer. I try to do that regardless of my personal feelings about a particular company or payment option.

That is why I think it is absolutely crucial that Paypal be better incorporated into Delcampe, especially to retain those Ebay buyers as repeat customers.

To those who do not want paypal on Delcampe the answer is quite simple, don't offer it as a payment option on your listings.

I would like this also, especially since Moneybookers has new US accounts blocked for right now.

While I'm not a real fan of paypal and would prefer to use someone else, paypal is better then none. Having a direct link would prevent what happened with my most recent payment from them. Got their name and address, but no mention of what they ordered. Was able to figure it out by looking at the emails, but if there were a large amount of them I could see the problem.

It is nice to know, that Delcampe is working on it.

Hopefully they will find out when Moneybookers will allow US accounts again, and I would be happy with them too.
